Moles are small, coloured spots on the skin. Most people have them and they’re usually nothing to worry about unless they change size, shape or colour. It is very common to have moles and most are harmless. They’re not contagious and they shouldn’t hurt, itch, or bleed. A mole can last as long as 50 years. If you are concerned about any mole or moles, ClearMed Clinic can help.
We offer private mole appointments with minimal wait times, ensuring you receive prompt answers and can begin the appropriate treatment plan quickly if needed. With our extensive experience, we prioritise making you feel at ease throughout the entire consultation and procedure.
Your health is our priority
A mole on your skin is also known as a nevus, or a beauty mark. It is very common to have moles and most are harmless. They’re not contagious and they shouldn’t hurt, itch, or bleed.
Your skin is the largest organ in your body. Skin moles are growths on your skin that range in colour from your natural skin tone to brown or black. Moles can appear anywhere on your skin or mucous membranes, alone or in groups.
Most skin moles appear in early childhood and during the first 20 years of life. It is normal for a person to have between 10 to 40 moles by adulthood.
The life cycle of an average mole is about 50 years. As the years pass, moles usually change slowly, becoming raised and lighter in color. Often, hairs develop on the mole. Some moles will not change at all and some will slowly disappear over time
A skin mole, or nevus, is a normal skin growth that develops when pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) grow in groups. They appear as small, dark marks, or sometimes flesh-coloured small bumps, on your skin. Moles can appear in a range of different colours, shapes and sizes
Certain moles are at higher risk for changing into cancerous growths such as malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer. Moles that are present at birth and atypical moles have a greater chance of becoming cancerous.
Cosmetic mole removal
Most moles are harmless. Harmless moles are not usually treated on the NHS but can be treated here at ClearMed Clinic.
Cancerous Moles
Moles only need treating if they’re a sign of melanoma. The main treatment for melanoma is surgery to remove the mole.
