You will be asked to lie back comfortably on the on an examination table. You may be asked to change into a gown or lower the bottom half of your clothing to allow access to the groin area. Ultrasound gel will be applied to the area and the sonographer will move the scanning device over your groin. This usually takes about 20-25 minutes and shouldn’t hurt, though you might feel a bit of discomfort if the area is already a bit tender. For hernia investigations, you may be asked to stand or strain to better display the hernia.
