Professor Mabs Chowdhury qualified from Leicester University in 1991 and trained on the Welsh Dermatology Programme. He is Honorary Professor at Cardiff University and Consultant Dermatologist in Cardiff currently working in private practice. He retired from the NHS after 34 years and led the Cutaneous Allergy service at the Welsh Institute of Dermatology, University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff from 2001-2025 and is a national expert in patch testing having lectured widely on skin allergies.

He served as President of the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) from July 2022 – 24 overseeing key developments in UK clinical services, research and education. As BAD Academic Vice-President, he chaired the Education Subcommittee to update the UK resident training syllabus implemented in Aug 2021. His previous posts include Clinical Lead for NHSE Dermatology e-learning for Health programme, Chair of the RCP Dermatology Exam Board, Clinical Director in Cardiff and Welsh Training Programme Director.

As Past President of Cardiff Medical Society, he has co-edited the 2026 historical book The Founding of Cardiff Medical Society in 1870: the doctors who shaped the city. He has published over 120 papers and is Associate Editor of the international reference Rook Textbook, co-author of the undergraduate textbook Dermatology at a Glance and co-editor of Dermatology Training: the Essentials 2022.
He is keen to enhance cutaneous allergy knowledge across all multi-professional groups to improve patient care in the UK and internationally and has trained over 25 dermatology trainees in patch testing clinics.
